Faith that serves the city
For nearly five decades, St. George has been a home for Orthodox Christians in Central Florida and a neighbor to everyone downtown.
Feeding Our Homeless Neighbors
Since 2009, the parish has served a weekly meal in the church parking lot. Blankets, clothing, and essentials are always needed. Drop them off Friday or Sunday.
Diving for the Cross
Each year for Theophany, St. George leads the blessing of the waters and the traditional dive for the cross in Lake Eola Park, a downtown Orlando tradition for nearly 50 years.
Bible Study & Fellowship
Bible study and conversation after the Divine Liturgy, with the Sunday luncheon and discussion table in the Fellowship Hall.
V. Rev. Fr. John E. Hamatie
Fr. John has shepherded St. George for almost 50 years. Under his care the parish purchased and remodeled its church, began the Diving for the Cross at Lake Eola, and launched the weekly feeding of the homeless. He produced the first weekly Orthodox television series in the United States and helped found the Central Florida Council of Orthodox Churches.
